right, i have just purchased my Aerocool HT-101 for my 3.0ghz P4!

it is installed, but my temps seem to be running hotter than before, it idles at about 50 degrees and underload alot higher...

i also have 4 other case fans and another on my 9800xt gfx card!!

surely mt temps shouldnt be that high?

any ideas or tips?

oh yes, would the fact that i am running a 350w psu to power all of this make any difference?

thanks, sam

Heya

The PSU should play no role. Your problem may be contact with the PSU. Did you apply the thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink? Due to the weight, it could not be sitting on top of the CPU right. Many people with heatsinks like you have something like a wire preventing the HSF from exerting too much force on the socket as well as to prevent the HSF from not having good contact with the CPU.

ok i have looked at it and it does seem to not sit nicely on, should i use, say a cable tie around it to keep it level and in good contact?

is it worth buying myself a 450psu to be on the safe side, i think this one mightb ea bit stressed!

Lol

YES!... definitely some support system then. I was right ;) As to you last question, a new PSU would not hurt but perhaps could not be needed. Check for voltages in the BIOS.

right ok, i have done what you said, and re tightened it, it is lay on its side now so it does not hand over, and tightened the bolts....it now idles at around 40, but still, my old cooler was better than that on my old case...

what else can i do, what do all of your p4 3.oghz run at?

bump, any ideas, i have re applied the arctic silver thermal paste, it is adling a tad lower, anything i can do??

ok, installed NFS:MW and when i go off and check active monitor, cpu is at 60!!!!

i need help fast, cum on people, thanks, sam

Your going to have to remove all thermal paste and reapply proper amount.
The h/s and fan have to be properly in place or you'll burnt out your cpu shortly. No cable ties, vice grips, welding etc.

i have only just done that today though, a thin layer on both the HS bottom and the CPU, it looks like there is good contact, the cooler is screwed down tight too!!

there is room for another fan on the ht101 but my case limits it and it wont fit...unless i get a really thin case fan

Your temps are way to high...
For example; This pc has a 3.0E(Prescott) and a Intel d865perl mb and as I type this the cpu is sitting on 29C. And that with a stock h/s, fan and thermal pad(same idea of thermal paste).
Heat will shorten the lifespan of your cpu dramatically.

i know....it needs lowering, i think the fact that i am running a 350w psu for 6 big fans, 2 disc drives, card reader etc... isnt really helping....

500w psu my best bet to cut some temp?

just ordered a nice big fat 500w psu with a massive fan on it, hopefully might lower it a tad, will also sort out my wires and airflow...

how do i know which way is blowing in and which way is pulling out?
