hey i was just wondering what would be better and fast on internet and mulititasking downloading music etc...an AMD athlon 64 3500+ or some sort of intel pentium 4....thanks for your input

For internet downloading and browsing the cpu isn't what will make any big difference there. Having a good internet connection and of course having dsl or cable beat dialup any day of the week. The only time the cpu plays any real role is when you are doing any online gaming to some degree there. That's when you see any good load on the cpu or when running multimedia.

For the basic system the AMD64 3500+ Socket 939 has worked out here even with some of the more demanding recent games out. For multitasking the better equipped AMD X2 line of models are a consideration. The other thing that will effect your decision is budget. What is the price range you are looking at for a new cpu?

o sorry i thought it did......but my budget for when i build my computer will be 400-500.....maybe a lil more if theres something that will make a big differnce...so about 100 bucks for my CPU

i would still go for the pentium d cuz in the future (2007-2008) dual cores will be standard. most mainsteam PCs have dual cores and alot of new software is being build around it. amd is good for gaming, which u said u don't do often. intel is best for multitasking, which u said you do.:)

If you are looking at a Socket 939 model board you can take advantage of the recent price reductions seen on the X2 models for an AMD build. For a bit over the $100 mark the $145.99 price was seen on the 3800+ X2 at newegg. Their prices on some models have increased since the beginning of the year there. But there are some single core models a little better then the 3500+ to look over at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7&Submit=ENE&Manufactory=1028&SubCategory=343
