Ok why wont it go

so i just built my new comp right (see signature for specs)...and im trying to install my winXP cd...when i press F1 to continue in the mobo settings screen (w/e its called) it just says "verifying DMI pool data"....what does this mean and am i doing the right thing to install it???...i also bought the OEM version of XP so i dont know if that matters....do i have to change some settings?
 
I googled and found the following.


This issue can be caused by any of the below reasons.

1. Corrupt boot files on the computer.
2. Settings for hard disk drive are not correct.
3. Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue.
4. Boot devices not set properly.
5. BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly.
6. Connections loose or disconnected.
7. Bad Hard disk drive or other bad hardware.

Solution:

Corrupt boot files on the computer

If the computer has no bootable files on the drive it is attempting to boot from it is possible that the computer may halt at " verifying dmi pool data...".

To resolve this issue:

* Boot from a bootable floppy diskette. Ensure that this diskette was made on the same Microsoft Windows operating system that is installed on your computer.
* Once at the A:\> prompt type "sys c:" and press enter. This should report the message "File system transferred". Once transferred remove the diskette and reboot the computer.

If the computer continues to not boot attempt to re-create the master boot record by booting from the bootable floppy diskette again. Once at the A:\> prompt type "fdisk /mbr" and press enter. This should return you to the prompt without giving you any message. Once at the prompt remove the diskette and reboot the computer.

Additional information about the "fdisk /mbr" command can be found on document CH000175.
 
you mean BIOS? it shoudlnt be too hard to install it. when it boots just press delete when it tells you or just continuously press it till the BIOS comes up. then change the boot order to CD and make sure you have the XP CD in.

Well Windows Xp isn't on a floopy set so you should be okay with out one...


Check the boot order in the BIOS, or if you really want a to do the floopy thing then you might have to go buy one...

when u say press delete, are u trying to get to the blue setup screen or the system configuration...cuz when i go to config it does that "verifying blah blah" and when i go to setup i cant find the boot thing ur talking about
 
Just look around in that "blue screen" (BIOS) for the boot order. What happens when it says verifying DMI pool data? Does it just stay there?

ya i just stays there at verifying...and what is the order supposed to be, i found the menu but i dont know (there are like 3 menus, 1st boot device, 2nd boot and 3....which do i change the settings for?)
 
Set the first boot device as your CD crive. Also you might need to install SATA drivers during the XP installation.

thanks its going....now the only problem is its going about 1% every 30 seconds....well i got some time :P ...that scarred me into thinking i got the wrong OS so seriously thanks:D

Yeah thats normal. Its just formating the HDD so it takes along time.

so doesnt that mean if i got like a 250gb HDD that it would FOREVER to format cuz i only have an 80 gig and im already bored out of my mind

Ya it's about as much fun as watching paint dry.

To speed things along, if you install Xp in the future chosse quick NTFS format if it is a new drive, or you know it contains no bad sectors.
 
lol i will...also now that its going (im even on it now), should i change the boot up settings back to the way it was or should i leave it at "cd boot" (it seems fine although i dont know whats best)
