Okay. I've got a bone ass stock Compaq Presario. Absolutely nothing new. It's pretty slow, and I want to play some newer games on it, and if possible, upgrade the 400 megs of ram that I have :o

Yeah, so please. I will be posting this over on the "memory" section also, as I need some major help. I'm an avid rookie tournament paintball player, and as you can guess, i'm flat broke because of it. I'm not looking to spend thousands on my computer. I just want it able to run new games (I downloaded the Halo 2 demo, and the ****ing thing wouldn't even run in 'Safe Mode') and I would like to up the speed of my computer.

Thanks much.
Lemons.

well first of all 400 megs? and second of all we are gonna need to get the specs of ur computer. we are also gonna need a budget. depending on ur budget u shuld upgrade ur ram and video card.

wow upgrading the video card can be very triky especially if its from a company such as compaq. i found it hard enough to take apart a compaq esktop let alone a laptop. but specs would be good

Specs..?
No idea. What are you looking for, and where do I find it?

Sorry, i'm not a moron, nor a new guy. I am very familiar with the software side of computers - but I am completely in the dark about hardware.

You can find some information by clicking on start then run and type in "dxdiag" without quotes. You can then hit the "display" tab and get your video card info. There is a "sound" tab etc. When Looking for advice like this it is very important that you provide this info so people can provied with you as acurate advice possible.

Should help :)

Yea well by the looks of this your PC has potential as the CPU although it's Older and outdated will still let you run more recent games. You'll need to Purchase a graphics card, Possibly a 6600GT depending on your budget of course. After you do that you'll also free up 64mb of ram. Would not hurt to buy 512mbs more.
