long ass story, but o sum up the results, i have a 4000+ with about 80~ pins bent, ive already bent about half of these back, meaning they are prone to breaking, if they do break, then how can i get them put back on... my bro said take it to a jewler, but i dont know about that crap (they are good with little gold peices) or try to sell it on ebay or something for $80 and just upgrade to an X2??

im not 100% but i think they can be soldiered back on. an X2 upgrade might not be a bad idea...

that would definately be the easiest option, just wait until conroe comes out this month if possible, then x2's drop 50% in price, or at least are supposed to.

Use a lead/mechanical pencil and bend them back. If you get one with a really long tip, it should fit between/over the pins just fine. As for soldering, I don't really see how you could. I mean, you need enough solder to keep the pin together, yet it can't be any larger than the original pin's size so it could slid into the socket...

Try using an old credit card to straighten the pins. If one or two pins fall off, it might still might work. One guy had 16 pins fall off his CPU and it still worked (thats a crazy example but you get the point).

I don't think soldering would be a good idea either.

long story short, dropped my computer down some stairs and i dove after it (broken toe) and basically my case is trash and my HSF pulled the processor out of the slot, slid over a couple of millimeters and then came back down, crushing my CPU... i HATE Artic Silver 5 now, it bonds the CPU to the HSF like no other, im getting that liquid metal gallium thermal crap now

the jewellers idea is not a bad one, they should be able to repare a bent pin.

If they are bent at 90 degrees then it is likely one or two will snap during repair.

There are many redundent pins on most cpus so you may get lucky.... but dont hold your breathe

The jewellers charge how much for an hour of work? Hehe but yes it may be the only chance, if you want to try and repair it.

well, with my awesome good luck with a clock repair kits bent needle nose pliers and a razor blade, i managed to squish the pins into their rightful posisition, ebay here i come

Did you try to see if it worked? Or do you have your eyes set on an X2? :P

I'm pretty sure that Motoxdude had a CPU with a couple pins taken off and only the frequency was hindered. Like it dropped a couple Mhz. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

if you sell it on ebay without testing it you will be forced to replay the money and get negative feedback if it doesnt work
