okay..

The soldering idea isn't too shabby if you have to do it at some point in your life. Cause there are some "water" based solders that can be put in the place you want it and heat everything in the oven for a while. Is supposed to be very good for "miniature scale" soldering, like for computer chips.

put my computer chip in 350F?? shiiiit, i dont even like it to be 100F
not possible the chip would have burnt out if that was the real temperature. Probably the fall damaged the temperature diode.

Touch it, if it was really that temp you would smell your skin burining :D

Not exactly sure how it works, but I've read up on stuff called cold solder, requires no heat and it conducts electricity...you could always try it. I have a 3000+ with a broken pin and if I ever get to it I'll get back to you on it.

if you sell it on ebay without testing it you will be forced to replay the money and get negative feedback if it doesnt work
Unlesss you put as is :) but thats kinf of a assholeish thing to do if you knwo it doesn't work. :P

And about the ARtic Silver 5...Its not that great in the first palce, your just paying for the name and the hype. I have used it several times along with normal thermal paste...same results.

I sold my processor that now has a broken pin on eBay after testing it and making sure it worked. The guy had trouble installing it, tried to bend a pin to fit and broke it off. Then he sent it back...
