Old gateway MDP e-4100(2004).First time upgrading.

Motherboard-Intel e210882?(2002)
CPU-Pentium4 HT 3.2ghz
RAM:2 128mb(256mb)
HD:maxtor 40gb
OS:Win.XP service pk 2002
I know its relly just a computer for buisness,but its relly not bad.Just needs to be upgraded.
It can hold 4GB of ram.If I upgraded to 4gb & took the 2 stock ones out.Would it delete all the software & hardware?

What is one of the best cpu fans?Not the heatsink & fan.Just the fan.Thats all I relly need so far.Might get a external hd(1tb $80).

Upgrading the ram memory will not delete any software..

Looks like a stock socket 478 cooler. The fan size looks to be 65 or 70mm. Hard to tell exactly from picture, I have a ruler in millimeters that I measure those with.

Newegg has them. I'd recommend ball bearing for longevity. Though for the price of replacement fans plus shipping you might be better served to replace the entire cooler with a new one from the local parts shop.

What should I relly be looking for to get one of the beter rams?I want to get some relly good ones.Im a noob of course lol.I don't know what would make a ram faster then anoher with the same amount of memory as the other.Thanks for the help & input guys!
