I have a ten year old gateway. I tried to add memory but bought a DDR2 when i needed a DIMM. Well I took one stick out of the comp to look at it and put it back and now the computer wont start passed the gateway screen.... I didnt add anything. Just removed and reinstalled that memory stick...

Thanks Derek

your old gateway wont support DDR2 and will either not function at all or function improperly with the wrong memory. DIMM is just another name for a 2 sided memory stick and DDR2 are DIMM's. I'm not even sure how you managed to fit that memory stick into the motherboard.

Tell us the model of your computer and we can recommend some potential memory, though you definately be much better off doing a larger scale upgrade.

Take them both out and re-insert them. Make sure they are both in securely (don't break them though) and re-boot. Then see if you can get to the BIOS and see if they are being recognized.
