Ok i have an older harddrive i want to install as a second in my new computer. the old one has windows xp on it and some programs. I would like to keep the programs and files with the exception of xp because i have that on my new comoputer already. How do i go about doing this? is it ok to just put it in or will that cause issues? thanks in advance for your help.

Keeping the programs on that drive will basically do you no good because you are changing the drive that Windows operates on. As for problems..., if you left XP on it, you may notice so weird problems, but you should format the drive once you get all the data off, and the programs re-installed with the new drive. FYI, why this doesn't work is that the registry in Windows depends on the programs being in the exact same location, so you'll have to reinstall. That's one nice thing about Macs, usually is that you don't have to do any of this stupid reinstallation crap because they don't have registries...

Another question then is can i use a ethernet crossover cable to transfer files like pictures from the old computer and hard drive to my new one. There are pictures and stuff i don't want to loss.
