old hp pavillion freezes everytime after 5min

one of my roomates brought bake his computer from home and he had it reformated and xp reinstalled he got it back and had the ethernet driver installed and ever since it keeps freezing after like 5 mins and my friend adam took it apart took out the ram looked over the insides and put it back to gether and it still has the problem at first we thought it was a virus and ran AVG and got rid of it and it still does it

its really a slow computer somewhere around a .6Ghz processor and 382 or somewhere around there ram

check the cpu fan... and also check your cmos battery.. just a few ideas

ITS a desktop and yes the fans r on r u talkin the watch battery on the mobo

That’s correct man. Sometimes strange things happen when this battery is losing its charge. See if you can get your hands on a new one.

If its losing its charge you'd be seeing alot of "CMOS HAS RESETTED TO DEFAULT SETTINGS" (or something like this) at bootup... check you hard drive, a failing hard drive could be the problem, as with a bad stick of RAM...
