Old laptop screen used as VGA monitor???

Hello,

Is it possible to use an old laptop screen as a VGA monitor. Getting a special VGA plug for the laptop screen cable(the cable is cut and there are alot of wires in it...and a ground wire...and the power cable has 4 black wires and 1 red( i guess 4 negative 1 positive???)so...could i just make it into a vga monitor...and also somehow wire the power up so i can plug into an outlet?

I've seen the converters around, but it's almost the same price and much easier to just get a new LCD from newegg!
