I have got an old PC from work that was being binned. it's an p3. I want to put xp on it but the network password keeps coming up so I can't get thru it. tried it in safe modes and BIOS but it still needs password.
Can I format drive in any way to install my personal XP or disable the networking passwords. Any Help ??? :(

ok, firtly you need to open the PC case and take out the little cell battery thats located on the bottom right corner of the motherboad, take it out and leave it out for say 5 mins, then pop it back in, that will get rid of any BIOS passwords, now ontp the network passwords, this is simply there because the windows installation has been set up to log into a domain on a server instead of a local user account, you cant get round this as this is how its set up, you will need to format the hard drive. Im assuming you have win98 on it right now, ok, use a different PC to create a start-up disk, then boot the work PC with the floppy startup disk in the drive, when you get to a command prompt you can format from there

Once its all formatted you can pop the XP disc in and begin

Alternatively you could just put your Xp disc in and if it is bootable it will begin the install and ask if you want to format the drive, this is a better and easire way of doing it

I agree with dragon. If you have the xp disk just boot to it and reformat the hdd that way. It will be fast and easy and you wont loose your necessary files which is always a possiblity if you do it using 98 lol
