Hey all,
im realy annoyed atm,As you may have noticed ive had a new pc and theres no problems with that.

i thought i would re-install Xp on my old Sempron rig as im giving it to my cousin just for internet use and that went all fine exept now i cannot get on the internet with it:cool:

It just doesnt detect the connection:(

ive installed the Via Ethernet adapter drivers and still the same.

ive re-installed Windows many times before on that old rig and i could use the internet without installing any drivers or anything but not today.

what could it be?

i use an ethernet lead NOT usb,and i have Broadband.

That's a good question.
No, don't hope for an answer from me, I have the same problem with my Virtual PC.
Legit copy of Windows and all, I have connection to net on this computer of course, I've reinstalled many times and never had such problems...
And I even had a connection through my VPC before I reinstalled my Windows last time...
Now I can't connect it, and I'm using broadband, ADSL connection :D

I had / still have a similar problem too. If I use the ethernet cable, nothing, modem power light is on, but I can't connect the modem to broadband.
Plug the USB in, install the drivers, bingo! I'm a surfing.

But I installed the drivers, and I don't intend to use USB connection.
Also, the same will probably Nevanokoza say....

Is it a separate Network adapter or is it part of the motherboard? If it's part of the motherboard i would say that you could try installing the motherboard drivers again.

Also, check in device manager to see if there are any yellow exclamation marks or red crossed on any of the components.

Part of Motherboard, already installed all drivers because I needed few more things on my VPC.
Well I used it before (VPC) to do some job...which I don't do anymore, so I am just curious now...

Could it be a faulty Ethernet Adapter?

well i hope not,It was working fine before i switched systems.

its onboard :)

i have installed all the Via ethernet drivers and still nothing:mad:
will look for yellow exclamation marks in Device manager.

If it's the LA edition then the ethernet is onboard, can you install Ubuntu and see what it thinks of it?

yeah thats right its onboard, yes i can install Ubuntu and try it out but my cousin has never used linux before and i dont know if he would like it

i think he wants to play the occasional game, nothing demanding like just warock he said.

Yeah its a good price,Im picking one up tommorow.

I hope they got some in stock

well i picked it up and installed the drivers and still nothing.
im so peed off right now

when i plug my internet cable back into the onboard ethernet port the computer detects its been plugged in but it says "Acquiring Network address" and it just says limited or no connectivity

please help

That's odd, if you've installed all of your drivers it should work, try first disabling the onboard ethernet then putting the card in.
