ive been trying to change settings on my oldD-LINK-2640R router to set it up as a extender but when i type in 192.168.1.1 cant be found is there any other way i can do this ?

cmd -> ipconfig
Browse to the IP of the default gateway.

Per the manual it looks like it should be 192.168.1.1 out of the box, you may have to reboot it as some devices have crappy software where the HTTP server crashes after a period of time.

Yeah agreed, reset it, then plug it in directly to the PC your're working on, type 192.168.1.1 and password and username is admin.

So you are using this basically as a second router on your network? You have to configure the second router before connecting it to your network. What is the internal IP address of the first router?

Then you need to manually assign the internal IP of the second router to 192.168.0.2. Run an ethernet cable from an lan port on router 1 to lan port on router 2. Disable dhcp on router 2 before connecting it to network.

If you connect everything up how I told you, you should have internet. Might have to reboot second router while attached to the network though. Make sure you aren't connected to the internet port on the second router.
