OMG HELP! Can't figure out what's wrong.

I have to make this quick, as my computer is actually letting me type this right now. Here we go.

Several months ago, my SSD went out. Couldnt figure out why. I thought maybe either it was bad, or my SATA3 Port was bad. I moved all the ports over one, and it booted up. Then, my computer shut itself off. I booted it back up. It was fine for about 30 minutes, then shut itself off again.

Now when I boot up, I hear a constant error sound. Its a continuous beep of sorts that doesnt stop. In the Bios, I turn off all the alert beeps to try and troubleshoot which one is causing the sound. That does nothing and the sound persists.

I unplugged EVERYTHING, except the CPU the PSU and one stick of RAM (Naturally). It still beeps. I take the RAM out, no Beep.

My question, is RAM needed for Post Codes? It doesnt make sense to me that all 4 sticks of RAM and all 4 RAM slots are bad. So right away, I would assume one stick of RAM is needed to relay the post code, which would mean my RAM and RAM slots are fine.

All my fans are spinning and everything else looks good, so I don't think it's my PSU (I could be wrong.)

My only other guess is it's my Motherboard itself.

Also, when I go into System Health in the Bios, everything looks good and nothing is even close to overheating.

Any ideas?! I will try to check back here, if my computer will let me, but for now, I am going to shut it down, as the beep is still going. If you guys have any questions for me, or need any type of DXDiag or anything like that, let me know and I will see what I can do. PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU!

Edit: I am currently running off my backup 750 Gig drive, and I have my SSD unplugged. Just in case. When my SSD first went out, it was not even showing up as a drive in the BIOS. When I switched ports, it booted up again, but then the shutdowns started happening. Now, the SSD is completely unplugged but the beep is still present which tells me its not the SSD and it is probably the motherboard.

If you have no ram installed it will beep letting you know there is no ram installed. You will get no other beep codes until ram is installed. It sounds like you have an issue with the motherboard. The only thing you can try doing is reset the cmos by doing the following.

Unplug power from power supply, remove cmos battery from motherboard, press the power button on the case for a few seconds then wait 10 minutes. Then reinsert battery and reconnect power and try booting up. If same issue then its a bad motherboard.

Excellent, I will try that right now. Before I do though, I have an update for you.

I went back into the Bios, and disabled the Power Fan Warning (PSU Fan). Once I did this, it beeped again when I "Saved Changes and Restarted" from the BIOS, then once it did the single beep that all computers do when they reboot, the beeping stopped.

Currently my PSU is on the Bottom of my Case, blowing outward toward the ground. I have my Tower sitting on a piece of Cardboard so that Airflow can still come in and out (My tower has "feet" on it so its not snug against the cardboard. Do you think its possible that not enough heat is escaping the PSU and its overheating? Should I move the PSU to the top of my Case and see if that fixes it, or are you confident that is not the issue and I should reset the CMOS?

Edit: I just read that there is no software for monitoring PSU temp, and that it will simply get loud when its getting hot. While my computer is pretty loud by itself, I haven't noticed any significant noise coming from specifically the PSU, but, It could be just because the rest of my computer is so loud. (I have 4 fans in addition to my CPU, GPU and PSU fans)

The power fan is not the psu fan. It would be a fan that is attached to the pwr fan connection on the motherboard. You must have a bad case fan somewhere.

I checked each fan separately, and they all seem to be working. I even checked to make sure my Case was closed all the way, as to not flag the Open Case Sensor warning. I am going to re-enable the Power Fan Warning (My motherboard does not have any additional fans on it). If it beeps again, I will try re-setting the CMOS. I will hopefully be able to log back in to let you know the results. Thank you!

Update: Re-enabled the Power Fan Warning, and sure enough, it beeps again. I am going to re-set the CMOS now, and if that doesn't work, I am going to move my PSU to the top of my Case, and relocate my tower to my Desk instead of the floor on Cardboard. :P

Update #2 - I reset the CMOS, and on Startup I got a screen that says

CMOS Cehcksum Error - Defaults Loded

followed by a blue box which reads

Post Error Occurs!

Profile : Default
Success Boot Record : Last Known Good

I chose Default. Upon reboot, it still does the beep when Power Fan Warning is enabled. I am going to move my PSU up to the top of my case and hook my SSD back up (At this point, I am almost positive its my motherboard, but I am going to try this one last thing)

Thanks for all the help, John. I really appreciate it.

Well the power fan warning is only part of the problem. It doesn't explain why my SSD disappears out of the BIOS (and if it does show up in windows I can't access anything on it) and also the random shutdowns. If my PSU is overheating, moving it to the top and giving it more airflow should fix that. If this doesn't do anything, then it's the motherboard. Which would explain everything including the Power Fan warning (seeing as there are no additional fans on my motherboard.

Have you tried different sata cables? What motherboard do you have? What are your system specs?

motherboard
cpu
model number of power supply
video card

I didnt actually actually try different SATA cables yet. Here are the system specs in the order you asked for.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+
CPU: AMD FX-8120 Zambezi
PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series TX-850 v2 (model number: CMPSU-850TXV2)
Video Card: Zotac Amp! ZT-50402-10L GeForce GTX 550Ti

I'm going to order some new cables and fans. Moving my PSU up top made it do I can't use my huge fan so I need two more smaller ones. :-P Plus it's not a bad idea to have extras.

Ok. I still say its a motherboard issue. Moving the psu won't do anything. If you have it at the top, you are basically pushing the heat down into the case and then expelled out the rear fan. If its at the bottom then its pushed directly out of the case at the bottom. Bottom mount is definately better.

Actually my PSU doesn't have a rear fan, just a giant top (or bottom) fan. My case has vents all across the top and bottom with mounts, so I can rotate my PSU so it expels out the top. But at this point, I agree with you. I'll be getting a new MOBO. Thank you so much for all your help.

The power supply fan is a intake fan. It sucks air in through the fan and blows it out the back. Moving it to the top will make it run hotter, it would be sucking hot air in from inside the case. At the bottom its pulling cool air from the vent at the bottom of the case.

If its working running the 750gb harddrive other then the beep code your getting. It could be your SSD is going bad and the beep code is throwing you off. What beep code is this, is it one long Continuous beep or repeating short beeps?

It's one long continuous beep. It starts after the initial beep on system boot up. I ordered some new fans and SATA cables which I will install on Thursday. I will keep my PSU on the bottom since you guys recommended that. My PSU only has one fan. I thought for sure it was an exhaust fan but of course I could be wrong. I'll have to make sure of that as well.

It seems as if everything is a crap shoot right now. Download core temp and check the temps of the CPU. Also download GPUZ and check your GPU temps. If that all checks out, the case fans are NOT the problem which I doubt they are anyhow.

Install new sata cables. Sometimes a bad cable can cause this.

Check the PSU with a multimeter.

If these suggestions do not work, it is the motherboard in most probability.
