<y friend gave me counter strike 1.6 with a cd key... i played the game for like an hour and loved it... and the i wen to go change the settings i set the resolution to like 1600x1200 i think and the screen went black.. i restarted my comp but now everytime i try to play CS the screen goes black the music still plays and stuff... please anyone help... i'm currently using onboard vide because i haven't ordered my 9600xt yet.. you cant tell me like go in teh directory or some liek fancy counterstrike ling because i have only had teh game for like an hour.. PLEASE HELP
 
do you have steam? if so go to my games, rigth click counter strike, click properties, then *i dont know how* but you do something like *insert your resolution here*

hopefully someone will better explain it
 
look around in the CS filder for a file called config.cfg or userconfig.cfg

they might not be there because i am going offa info from cs:s but the game are the same so it should be there.

Inside the file there might be somethign like:

Resolution
-w 800
-w 640

If so urs will be 1600x1200 jus change it down to say w 1024 w 768
 
im looking in winace and i can't find it.. tahnx anyways... anyone else have cs 1.6 and knows where to find teh config thing PLEASE

I solve the problem by uninstalling the driver for the monitor and installed a driver that only allowed 800x600. - Then I restarted the game and it worked.

The official solution is:

To run your game in a different resolution, you can add "-w -h " to the command line used when your game starts. Right-click on the ConditionZero shortcut on the desktop, select "Properties", and select "Shortcut" to enter the command line parameters.
For example: "C:/Valve/ConditionZero/czero.exe" -w 1024 -h 768
To run your game using a different video mode, you can add "-soft" to start in Software mode, "-gl" to start in OpenGL mode, or "-d3d" to start in Direct3D mode.
Once your game is running successfully, you can remove these settings.





but that person has condition zero.. what would i have to eneter on this screen i kva 1.6

i would think it would still be okay to do so, add -w 1024 -h 768 after -nomaster -game cstrike and try tht.
 
have you tried reinstalling the game? And make sure when you uninstall it you uninstall everything, like settings and stuff.
