omputer no longer recognises the cd drive?

my dad recently restored his pc due to an error on one of his settings. However now the computer no longer recognises his drive, and he cant play/rip and cd's and the dive is not listed in ym computer? do i need to enable a setting? or buy a new drive? any help much appreciated

check the bios to see if it's listed there, if not try to detect it, if that doesn't work try it in another computer, if that doesn't work then it may just be junk

Try a different cable if ribbon type cables are in use. Those get dried out and become worthless at times. Make sure the connectors are in properly too. Recheck that along with the power plug.

Another simple thing to check is to goto device manager and uninstall the cd drive (if its there) and then reboot

try cleaning the drive ... or get a inspector disc... they sell em at best buy for 3 bucks and they tell you whats wrong with the drive... so try that out

I don't think they have a Best Buy close enough to bluedishwasher for that.
