on board graphics problem

On my second computer I have an onboard SIS 741 graphics card. I just changed the monitor to a 20" and when I put the suggested resolution which is 1400*1050 the picture comes bigger than the screen and the screen still give the message that the best res is 1400x1050. What can I do to solve this problem?

and another thing about this motherboard. As I said it has on board graphics however it has also an agp 8x slot. I tried both the Geforce6200 and the FX5500 which should both work however none of them works. Do I have to change some jumpers or something in BIOS for them to work?

Thanks

Is this second monitor a TV of any sort? Some LCD TVs have a slight overscan and part of the edge hangs off the visable screen. Might this be the case or does the desktop move around as you move the mouse to the edge?

If it's AGP, installing a new card should disable the onboard graphics. How's it "not working" Are you getting anything from onboard of dedicated cards when installed?

This monitor is not a TV. It's a viewsonic 20" and yes the desktop moves around as I move the mouse to the edge.

If I plug the monitor in the AGP no signal comes but if I remove it and plug it in the onboard it works.

Go to your BIOS settings, you might find an option that says "Primary graphics adapter" or something similar, if it's set to onboard change it to AGP. Otherwise, it will still treat your IGP as the primary (if this is the problem, of course).

I set AGP as primary and then nothing came both from the agp and the onboard. Maybe something is wrong with the AGP slot.

Any other solution for the other problem of the picture bigger than the screen? Maybe this is also something from BIOS because I notice that also when it's booting some of the words are out of the screen.

I solved the AGP problem. I flashed the BIOS and put the 6200 and worked fine. Now the resolution is fine too.

Thanks
