Ok, if i got a motherboard with no onboard graphics, can I still run the computer without a graphics card as long as I dont run demanding programs?

Do you already have the computer or are you going to buy the motherboard? If it doesnt have onboard grapics or anything it probably won't contain a monitor connection port.

if your motherboard does not have onboard graphics, you need a graphic card to be able to display anything on the monitor.

You need either a graphics card or onboard graphics, or else you wont have anything to plug your monitor into :)

i have a graphics card, but i dont have the software for it anymore. if i install it to the motherboard will i be able to run the monitor off it if i dont install the drivers?

Windows should automatically recognize any video card, but it's a good idea to get the latest drivers from the companies website for best performance. Most likely it's either ATI or nVidia, unless it's really old.

its junk, its a nvidia fx 5200, but as long as i can start it up im happy, even with the drivers, ill find and install them later

The FX5200 is fine for normal tasks, and even playing older games. Much better then most integrated video chipsets.

Not always true though. Had a old Sempron 2600 + Motheboard with onboard Unichrome Graphics. Could run most wanted, underground, porsche unld, and all NFS games at max detail with no probs!

Theres no possible way you can run NFSMW on max with those graphics.

I had a similar setup, with a Sempron 2500+ and UniChrome S2 (w/e) onboard graphics, and I struggled to play CS 1.6 on low settings.
