On boot it goes to chkdsk but cant escape it

You most likely have a failing hdd. Check disk won't help that. Depending on brand of drive, you can use diagnostic software to test the drive.

As per John, failing HDDs can exhibit a variety of symptoms but one of the common ones is application hanging as the hard drive can't read the data off of that portion of the drive. Since your disk is already flagged to chkdsk on boot it sounds like it wasn't able to load Windows, and then hangs when attempting to read the volume.

Hard drives are the most common failed component on laptops due to motion/use/abuse. If the laptop isn't a $20 stinker from 2011 then it might be worth replacing with SSD that has significantly higher shock/drop tolerance, in addition to being multiplicatively 'faster'
