Onboard graphics?

I swiped this post from another thread as well.
I would get something stronger than a 4650, it's not much better than the onboard because that PC should have an I5 650 and the integrated graphics on an I5 are pretty decent (one of the best onboard anyway).

I would suggest a 5770 if you can afford it-

Or if you can't afford that, a 5670 would be pretty much the minimum as far as an upgrade from the onboard-

I thought the onboard graphics were dependent on the motherboard. How does the CPU make a difference?

Ok, good. I was thinking that maybe I really am still completely lost on computers when I saw that, but I am glad to see that. Thanks.

The i5 650 processor has a GPU built into the CPU. The CPU is 32nm. but the GPU is 45nm. they set side by side on the die.

From what I know the integrated graphics only works on H55 & H57 motherboards

It won't work on P55 motherboard. Correct me if I'm wrong

Most likely correct, perhaps future BIOS updates could affect that? I don't know, I'm no expert on these newer chips.

Most onboard video goes through the chipset on the motherboard itself, but in the instance of the I3 500 series and I5 600 series with an H55/57 motherboard, the ''onboard'' video is in the CPU as already stated.

I3's and I5's can be run on P55 boards, but there's no onboard video at all just like the previous socket 775 boards with the P45 chipset.
