One out of 3 computers not connecting to internet

My wireless is working fine on my laptops. But my computer that is wired to the router has suddenly gone offline. I get home from work and there is that lovely triangle with an exclamation point. Recently when that has happened i just had to restart the router, problem solved. Now it seems permanent. Does this mean it is time for a new router? Or could it be something else?

I tested a second router from a different company. Nothing.

Try hooking up your laptop to the cable and see if it will connect, if it won't then its a router issue or cable issue. Try switching ports on the router.

It connects to my laptop fine... What do I do now? I assume this means it is something with my computer. The light around the ethernet does light up green. So it isn't that.

Is it possible spyware could have done this? As I was reading last night my firewall asked me if something could connect to the internet that I didn't recognize so I denied it. Then this afternoon after I get home from work. Nothing.

What web browser do you use? Internet Explorer? Open IE or go into control panel and click on internet options, click on the connections tab, click on the lan settings button, uncheck the box next to proxy server if its checked. If it is then you have malware on your system. You may want to scan your system with malwarebytes or I can have you download a program and put it on a usb flash drive and run it on your desktop.

The box was not checked and I use mozilla.

I was told that reinstalling/updating the lan drivers might help. So I go to emachines.com and find the lan drivers for my pc and when I download them and transfer them to my PC there is no install file or instructions.

I have a .cat, .inf, .sys and .DLL file. No idea what to do with them.

Before you do that. Try doing a system restore back to a day it was working fine. What model of emachine do you have and what operating system?

To update the driver without a setup install file you need to update manually by going into device manager, click on update driver for that device and point the update to where you downloaded the file from emachines.

Waiting on update after system restore.

Typical, system restore, yet again is not working when i need it. It keeps telling me an antvirus program might be running preventing it from finishing and to disable it. I don't have an anitvirus program. I have a zone alarm fire alarm. I exited out of it and tried again but it still didn't work.

uninstall zone alarm temporarily. Are you sure its called fire alarm? Can't find anything at the zone alarm website about it.

No idea what I did. I went to device manager and clicked update driver manually. Clicked on search computer for drivers or soemthing and it installed something and now it works. I have no idea why i wrote fire alarm. Going on 4 hours of fixing this. I am tired. Thanks for all the help.
