I just built my first computer, did all of the BIOS and setup stuff according to the manual, and i got some XP Professional operating sysmem from my dad. I put the CD in and it started loading, and it did it for about an hour, showing the % of completion. I selected the options that made more sense, and once it finished loading, it restarted my computer. i didnt press anything, and at the very end of the few pages of stuff it gave out, it said there is a Disk boot error, press ctrl alt delete to reset.

i did, and i dont know waht else to do, because it doesnt even read the disk if i put it in again, and i cant take the operating system off, even though theres no way of telling it its on or not

You mean it doesnt boot from the cd when you put it in, this is because you bios is set to boot from hdd before cd, change it in bios

it still doesnt work. it sais Verifying DMI pool data ........
Boot from CD :
Press any key to boot from CD:...... (i press a key)
A disk read error occured
P{ress Crtl+Art+delete to restart

Hmm

Play around with the boot sequence. As well as that, have you pressed any key to get it to boot from the CD-ROM?

JAN :D

well, i tried something different, by runningnthe setup again, and it says you cant have 2 OS's on one partition, so i ran the setup on a second partition. when it was done, it told me to reset the comp and then the setup will continue. i reset it, and it again says boot from Cd, if i dont press anything it says Boot Error, and if i press a key when it says that, it runs the setup all over again. i am now going to delete both of the partitions and run the setup on unpartitioned space.

just on a side note
and i got some XP Professional operating sysmem from my dad.
i hope you have purchased a licence key, xp will stop working in 30days if you dont activate it with a valid cd key

any other suggestions people? i have no idea whtas going on. if somebody could give me detailed instructions on how to do it, then i can try taht and see what step something is happening at.

i will try that later, and i now found out what happens. following these instructions, http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/InstallXPPro/installxppro1.htm , i saw that i did the installation correctly, but when it tells me to reset the computer, i do it, and the windows XP screen does not pop up, but instead shows up the following
PCI Devices listing (huge list of stuff)
Verifying DMI pool data...............
Boot from CD :
Press any key to boot from CD.......
A disk read error occured
Press Crtl+Arl+Delete to restart

if i press something while the Press any key ot boot from CD.... is showing, then it takes me to the setup all over again.
