Hi

on my 3 yr old dell latitude (new problem)
when I want to use the phone port it opens the line
and I cant dial out
them modem check comes back ok
the jack looks good
when i called Dell the said the jack is part of the motherboard and cant be changed independly

what am I missing???

it means you have a onboard modem (intergrated on the motherboard of the pc.)
so,.. if you think the modem is broke, you can look for a cheap pci modem.

Uh, using a dialup modem is *supposed* to use up your phone line
