open tasks?

when I ctrl-alt-del I have a lot of things showing up in my task manager and I was wondering what ones do and don't need to be open. Here's a screen shot of it:

Also if someone could explain that system idle process that apparently is taking 99% of my cpu up.

It looks pretty clean. System Idle Process is exactly what it says, theres nothing funny about it. It makes it so your CPU doesn't run at full power when it doesn't need to by sending the idle signal to it. System Idle Process will yeild to any other process that requests CPU time

Note that the number (48) processes is without about five processes that normally run.
