On is a copy of the other.. If they were both free i would get the MS on... but there is the whole money thing. Open Office has done a great job, and is is free!
I have Office XP Professional and it can do crap I will never use in my lifetime. Probably sticking with Open Office isn't a bad idea. The price is right.
If you mean, which is better in terms of functionality, then it's a no brainer, MS Office. However if you mean which is better in terms of functionality, price, and other factors, the OpenOffice may be the correct answer for some people.
Office if you can get it discounted or through a package deal.
Openoffice if you woul dhave to pay retail on the Office package. No reason to gouge for freakin productivity software! My only pain in teh ass is I need my own printer. I have to convert my files in wordpad, save them on a usb dongle adn then go to the penn hall and print my chit off to turn in. Meh, complictaed process.
Convert your files in wordpad? Wha?.. as for the topic at hand, MS Office is the better of the two purely on functionality. But again another point someone made was, if you want something for nothing, then Openoffic is the way. Although if price wasn't an issue with either of them, I'd be voting MS office for the win.
If I can get M$ Office for free I'll always use it first. The laptop had it pre-installed, my older desktops I built my dad always handed me a copy so I just stuck with it.
If I can't get it free, I'd never pay for it. OpenOffice is what I would use instead. I used it for a while on my last desktop, worked fine for what I needed to do.
