Opinion and perhaps suggestions with current computer

To be perfectly honest I'm pretty clueless about computers in general, about a year or so ago now I decided I wanted a new one though. I had a look around and found the bits myself but am wondering now if any of you more experienced and knowledgeable techies might be able to help with making it... Better

My computer consists of:
Case: NZXT Phantom Enthusiast USB3.0 Full Tower Case - Black
MB: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
Processsor: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 975 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.60GHz (Socket AM3)
Graphics: MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
PS: XFX Pro 1000W Black Edition '80+ Platinum' Certified Modular Power Supply
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache

Any information is appreciated from hardware that might work better with what I have, simple upgrades to make things run smoother or well... Anything :). Much appreciated in advance.

PS: Nothing is overclocked as quite honestly I haven't a clue where to even start
PSS: Any other information you might need just ask and I will supply it
PSSS: Really hope this is the right forum to put this in *.*

Seems to have a few cooling issues as its under a desk and there are a few games which have been temperamental at times.

When I was playing GW2 I would change into a new area and the lag would be appalling. Unsure if it was just the game or the way I had set everything up, but at times it run smooth as it possibly could. Other times it was jolty and near unplayable.

I also tried PCSX2 but I think the processor wasn't able to quite keep up, not entirely sure though.

I'm mostly happy with it but I'm not sure if everything works well together or if they are conflicting and I'm just not computer savvy enough to notice >.<.

Would be great to know if the computer is easy to upgrade rather than replace when things do start to become obsolete as well.

Its more that I would like a computer that can handle anything my whims decide to throw at it :)

Thank you for the speedy reply

I would think your system should have no problems with either of those. Maybe you have outdated video drivers? Power supply is way overkill for the card you have but shouldn't be causing any issues. Maybe try reinstalling windows? Have you done any general system maintenance like scan for malware on your system? Ran Ccleaner?

edit: would also open the case and check for any dust bunnies on the cooling fans of the cpu and video card.

I'll check and run them tomorrow and if they don't seem to help then I'll give it a reformat and reinstall. Thanks for the help ^^.

With the power supply I had 2 cheaper ones die on me and thought that overkill would be better than dishing the money on another one >.<.

Will give it a thorough clean tomorrow as well in that case, can't remember the last time I done so.

Again, thank you for the information and the help. Glad that the build didn't raise any alarms
