opinion on a gaming system that im building

someone with more knowledge will certainly have more to say, but...

-do not get the physx
-a 7950 is not necessary
-the harddrive and ram are up to you
-the sound card might be overkill

seems like a good system to me.
the only thing i would recommend upgrading if you are going for a really high end gaming system is the processor. It's not completely neccassary though. I have the x2 3800+ in my system and it runs just fine but i do wish i would have gotten a faster proc. It is a decent proc. though.

I would skip the Phyciscs card, and get a little bit cheaper sound card, and upgrade the CPU a bit, and also get a better moniter.(Get one with a higher Contrast Ratio, or higher Max Res) Just IMO, I would DEFINATLY loose the phsycics card for now though and spend it in something else, just imo to put it in the cpu and monitor.

Also i would get Windows XP 64bit, There is a lot more driver support then there used to be, I am running it fine with no probs.(ONLY thing was printer, which didn't have drivers for, but on there website after looking for a while it tells you how to still get it to work)

4GB of RAM really is overkill. You need a PSU as well. A few smaller HDDs are also cheaper than one 750GB one.

Cmon...a system that costs over 3k deserves a better cpu than the x2 3800+...

Also like the others said, go with AM2 right now, or wait till Conroe to come out, as that's suppose to blow amd out of the water (looking at benchmarks).
