Opinion on first build

Thinking of beginning my first build. The purpose is to do some online gaming and to transfer several years of Hi-8 and Mini DV tapes to DVD. I allready have a Canopus Advanced Digital Video Converter to accept both analog signal and the digital signal via Firewire. The graphics card i chose because it was reasonably priced and has an HDMI out on the card. I plan on using my HDTV as my monitor. Here is my public wishlist on newegg. Any opionions would be welcome. I hope the link works

Here is a few things that I see.

- Video work...get a Quad Core, you'll be much better off in the end.

- $150 for an 800w Tagan power supply. That is a over kill, there is no need for near that much power. Here is a good power supply for a good price that will give you more than enough. It's the same PSU I have, great modular PSU:D

- I would get an eVGA 9800GXT+ before I would get a Galaxy card. eVGA has about the best customer support in the industry, lifetime warranty and a great "step up" program. I wouldn't mess with the other card.

I took your suggestions and updated the list. The price was pretty much the same. I was not going to get a card with DVI out only because i was leary about using a DVI to HDMI adapter. But upon some reading there seems to be no loss of quality with the adapter. Its all digital after all so it makes sense.

You’d be safer choosing memory that’s listed on the motherboard’s QVL

http://www.gigabyte.us/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-ep45-ud3p.pdf

and you might not plan on adding a second video card in the future, but that MB doesn’t support SLI multi card configurations.

Scout talked me into upgrading the video on my first build and I'm glad I took his advice.

Im going to keep the MB and memory. I have a budget and really am sure I wont be adding another video card in the future. Worst case ill just replace it with the latest and greatest card at that time if i need it.
