Opinions Dell XPS 8300

Hi,

I'm not too familiar with purchasing desktops, however reading reviews of different desktops this computer seemed reasonably price. My main use for a desktop is to run some high level programming languages, write some programs for my research work, etc.

Disclaimer: I will NOT be using this for any gaming purposes (other than for when I'm playing solitaire or minesweeper lol.)

I found this Dell XPS 8300 for around $1000 with the following specs:

Processor/Memory: Intel Core i7-2600 Processor at 3.4GHz
8MB Cache
12GB DDR3 SDRAM

Hard Drive: 1TB (7200 RPM) SATA II Hard Drive
16X DVD+/-RW Drive with Double Layer Support

Graphics & Video: 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6450 Graphics

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

It also comes with Microsoft Office Home and Student and has a 23" LCD screen.

Some of this stuff, such as the graphics card, are not really important to me. I'm just hoping to get some opinions of if this seems reasonably priced, and also if this computer matches up well to my needs.

Thanks!

is much better to build your own, can get higher quality parts and better performance for the same price, and also better support if needed, although that does seem to be a decent deal, is this a new one or is it online for sale somewhere else?

Non-K processor and OEM motherboard, no overclocking
12GB memory at the expense of speed, most likely 1333mhz or 1066mhz, standard is 1600mhz
No mention of HDD brand, probably Hitachi. Not the best.
6450 is a slow card, won't allow any gaming except for old games.
No mention of PSU, probably crappy OEM

$1000 is a good budget.

linkin, you're forgetting the os , although if you drop the gpu as he said he isn't gaming you can prob get that, and without a highend gpu you can go down to this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-082311-Index-_-PowerSupplies-_-17139027-L07A

this is 5 more with promo and more ratings and well known brand, but idk on their quality normally

and the os is 85 for the next 15 hours with a promo code, so with the remaining money you can get this gpu which is pretty good
