Hello world! I've been thinking of building a new computer from scratch for a couple of months and now I've come up with something that seems quite pleasing. The purpose of the machine is gaming and also a bit of music production. I live in Finland meaning the parts won't be available for me at the same price as on newegg.com so I put a finnish store's ones in brackets.
So, the specs are:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale (179€)
- I had a hard time choosing between AMD and Intel, and decided to go with Intel, but after reading in some guide here that AMD is the way to go for gaming I began wondering again. So should I go with AMD or does it even matter that much nowadays?
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R (114€)
- Damn motherboards, I had absolutely no idea what to choose and because these Gigabyte ones seemed quite popular I thought I'd pick this. The DS3L seemed a bit more popular and a bit cheaper, but the store I'm gonna buy from (remember I live in Finland) didn't seem to have that model
- Comments on this one would be really appreciated
Memory: Kingston HyperX 2GB Kit DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) (79€)
3D-Card: EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit (290€)
Case: Antec 900 (109€)
PSU: Thermaltake toughpower W0117RU ATX12V / EPS12V 750W (124€)
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit (117€)
- Programs do work on Vista these days, right? Or should I find myself a good ole' XP somewhere?
+processor cooler + hard-drive (I probably don't need advice with these, unless you really really want to share your opinions on these too)
In case you should recommend another mobo or a case: The mobo must have at least 1 firewire place, and I'd really prefer a firewire plug in the front panel of the case.
So, if there is a major bottleneck or perhaps an overkill part please let me know and all opinions and recommendations in general would be nice. Hope I didn't miss any important info..
Thanks in advance!
