I am overclocking my opteron 2.0ghz and have it at 2.7ghz but had to change the voltage to 1.425V to get it there. How high is safe for upping the voltage? And what speed should I be aiming for?
thats a good voltage considering the jump you have managed. the main thing is to keep the temps down but you dont wanna push too far with the voltage as it will kill the cpu. i would think you could get quite close to 3.0 GHz but keep an eye on the temps.
My ram is 2GB Kingston Value Ram and it oc's from 200 to 220MHZ without problem. My cooling is a powerful housefan for now (I'm just seeing how far it CAN oc)
Oh, and my default voltage is 1.400
LATEST NEWS:
I can OC to 2.74ghz. 2.75ghz doesn't launch windows. Should I up the voltage to fix this?
which chip is it exactly?
With stock vcore of 1.4v you should be totally fine with 1.425v and even a few notches higher.
Note heat is an issues, but its not heat that damages cpus in the long term, it voltage.
I was in a rush when I wrote my post I should be more specific:
Its ok to raise the voltage as long as your temps are under control. For long term use I wouldnt go above 1.55 V.
