Optical Drive Replacment Questions

Hi

Both my DVD RW and DVD ROM drive have been buggered by starforce  and now I am left with drives that rarely work reliable and are slow as hell.

So as drives are cheap, I’m looking at replacing them. But I have a few questions as I have only ever changed RAM and GPU's.

So:
Apart from physically changing out the drives for a new one are there any software/driver installation / uninstallation procedures I need to do. Or is it just a case of connecting the IDE Cables with the correct jumpers on the drives. And is that it?

Also I am not sure whether to replace both or just buy one DVD-Burner because I rarely do on-the-fly copying, but then I would be concerned about the open hole on my case at the front, and I don’t have any space black covers (Could allways just leave one of the old drives in but just disconnected lol)

you just swap them out no software or anything and if it was me because there so cheap i would get 2 lg drives there brill.

Ok thats sounds brill. Just wonder about getting a drive with lightscribe tech, sounds like nifty thing to be able to do.

you have a software problem

turn dma back on, or reformat and reinstall windows

replacing the drives wont help

Hi sorry should have said the whole story.

A long while ago I installed X2 and X3 which installed starforce. Things seemed to be ok. But slowly things started to go wrong. Found out about starforce, got rid of it, problem not solved. Checked DMA all fine in device manager. Then did Operating reinstall from recovery partition. Still drives were playing up, so now I am at this point with a clean install but still slow burning and error logging
