Optical Wired Mouse

Have a USB optical mouse on my computer.The red light goes out after about 5 min.Bought new mouse and same thing.Problem started several months ago but getting worse.When lights goes out I can unplug and reconnect,starts working again.Can someone point me in right direction what to check. This is on Pavilion 750c.Going to upgrade when funds permit.Thanks
 
there should be a cable going to the usb ports. it might be as simple as unplugging internally and reconnecting. on my other computer i had some issues with usb. i got tired with fumbling with it. just bought another usb card and eliminated that problem.
