Optimising a very slow laptop

At the moment I have had to use one of my old laptops (a Toshiba Portege 7200) at work before installing a new network a few weeks away yet. However, my administrator is finding it simply too slow.

I'm thinking about ways in which I can speed up load times, for example, reducing start processes etc. It will be used only for b/b internet and Microsoft Office - especially MS Word.

wow. have you added anything extra to it? or is it still stock?

the cpu and memory on it is really slow(stock).
what os is it running? win 2000?

you can try deleting unused programs, doing a disk defragmenter, using a registry cleaner, stop some startup programs you dont necessarily need form starting up.

Yes it is on Windows 2k. Not to worry though our new network should be up and running in a few weeks anyway.

run ms config and disable stuff from startup you dont need. try diasabling performance options like animated minimizing and sliding taskbars. try setting colors to 16bit instead of 32bit if available.

u can also try finding cheap price ram to add or a faster 2nd hand hardrive.

also if there isnt alot of ram you can try increasing the page file.
