Options to run IDE hard drive on MOBO

My external hard drive stopped working when I got a you have an invalid windows message. I am working on backing up my information so I can install a valid windows xp. The question I have is about my external hard drive, the one that has 5 years of my life including my research, pictures of girlfriends, and everything I did in college. The hard drive is an IDE and I believe my motherboard does not support IDE. What are solutions to connect this hard drive to this computer?

Feel stupid for never putting that information onto this computer after I built it. :(

If it's the board in your signature then your does have an ide port. See the blue connector behind the power supply connector?? Thats the ide port.

Haha, yeah I took it apart and it does have an IDE. I started it up and my hard drive was recognized so good news. Now the bad news. I am getting a high pitched beep as soon as I start the computer and no boot up. I am about to check the connections and make sure I didn't unplug anything while installing and moving around the hard drives. Any ideas?

Its not plugged in now but could the master slave settings or the color of the IDE cable have affected anything. It worked, I shut down the computer, then I mounted the hard drive and moved my primary hard drive and then the beeping and lack of start up.

I don't have anymore time to mess with it tonight. It sounds like I'll have to check the processor connection and if that doesn't work maybe do a build outside the case to try and isolate the problem. Computers have been a headache lately.

I figured it out. The power connector on the graphics card came off. Saw someone else with the same problem and realized I thought I saw that come off. Not booting it up yet, I blew it out with the duster and want to make sure no moisture got in the cpu. I fried a computer once from that.

No problem, I was trying to get to bed. Yeah, it was the power connector for the graphics card. I am now in the process of installing windows again. Thanks for the help.
