I recently bought and built a new system...
Opteron 148 (CACJE stepping) 1.45V
2x 512MB Kingston pc3200 (2.5-3-3-8)
Windows XP MCE
Albatron 6800gt
Asrock 939Dual Sata2

I immediately went to overclocking. I got the system up to 2.8ghtz, however unstable by Prime95. So I began at 230x11... and primed for 8 hours. Then up to 235x11 and it errored at 8hrs and 30 mins. WHAT!?!?! 2.5GHZ FROM A CPU THAT'S BEEN KNOWN TO BE ONE OF THE BEST OVERCLOCKERS!!! So I tested with memtest86 and got a lot of errors. After fixing RAM timings and such, I tested again and got no errors after a few runs of memtest86. However, it's still unstable after some time (Prime95) at 235x11. Whats goin on here? I stay at 32*c idle and 50*c full load for a few hrs. I even tried my ram at 2.5-3-3-11. Any help!?!?

you're never guaranteed to get any overclock from a processor. also, there is a particular batch of opterons that are known to overclock very well but these aren't being produced anymore from what i've read. i've also read that water cooling was used on a lot of these overclocks.

if you honestly feel there is a lot more to be had from your setup then i would say that you may have missed something during your overclock.
it may sound stupid but you might wanna check if the agp locks are in place.
you should also check what the maximum fsb your motherboard is capable of by dropping the multiplier and memory divider right down and then pushing the fsb as far as it will go.

my particular processor cant get past a fsb of 216 MHz because there is a problem with the memory controller
