ok new the forum lots of good info here!
I recently built my first computer so im still learning alot. So my problem a wile back my computer randomly just shut off, i could turn it back on but it would just shut off after a bit. So i assumed it was my power supply. After a few mouths of saving i got a new power supply pluged everything in and it would boot it just showed "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot devices and press a key"

so i was wondering if this was right shouldnt it have just been normall and boot up ??? i put my windows 7 beta CD back it and it boots up but just stops with that windows back ground thing.

if yall can help that would be great thanks

id you have installed windows 7 already to your hard drive

go into the bios and selct your hard drive as a the first boot device, sounds like your computer is set to boot from cd and not from your hard disk

This message has happened because the BOOT SECTOR on your HDD where you have Windows 7 installed is corrupted or simply just disappeared what is a common thing when changing the power supply or other hardware components.Anyway...there are 2 ways to create the new boot sector information:

--->using the Windows 7 command prompt from your Windows 7 DVD disk
--->using Linux Ubuntu version 9.04 + Windows 7 DVD disk + external USB HDD (I recommend this way by the way)...

If you don't know how to do this, tell me and I will let you know how you can save every single byte from your HDD.

Cheers!

Changing a power supply will not corrupt the boot sector, unless the power supply failed.

Your hard drive may have failed.

Is your CPU cooler fitted in the correct way?
Check it physiclly if is all the 4 screws are tight.
Also while you are seeing if your cooler is well fitted check inside of the case
and see if you have a lot of dust in that CPU fan as well,if it its, remove it.
Check also if your SATA/PATA or molex(power conector in HDD) conectors arent loose.
Hope that helps

I had a similar problem. Turned out the CPU cooler was loose, tightened it up and it works great now. What kind of socket do you have? Cause those 775's suck to try to get a cooler into, at least the stock one anyways. Aftermarket CPU coolers are supposed to hold on better apparently, so consider that.
Don't give up hope, the first rig always has some bugs, took me about a month to finally get mine working.
