OS slow new computer

Recently i built a new computer and i noticed that windowsis running slow
my specs are
e6750 core 2 duo
680i se (tr edition)
2 gigs of pc 6400 ballastix ram
8800gts 640mb

and so i was wondering why after i updated my drivers and installed a few programs why windows slowed down so much

for example

at startup, before i installed the drivers, updates and a few programs it would usually take around 1-2 bars running accross the screen and then come to windows
now it takes around 10-13

which is very unusual

any help would be appreciated

Well that's before Windows would be loading startup programs so I'm stumped. I guess you could defrag your hard drive or do a "NOGUI" boot from msconfig.

There's nothing to be stumped about there. Once you install all drivers and add programs Windows will be required to take a little more time to see things loaded. For counting bars that's only a few seconds difference there. For an extended period of time like several minutes to see the desktop you would have to take a look at any additional hardwares/devices plugged in like a printer or some other usb device.
