OSX livecd

Ok, just discovered this forum...very excited.

Question: is there anyway to do a livecd for the OSX system? At least so that I can see what it's like and why anyone wants a mac look.

Background: Over the last six years I gone from never sending an email to running a dual boot system of Ubuntu and XP and putting together old systems for people...lot's of fun, and still learning. Started with Gentoo for Linux (baptism by fire). Tried lots of livecd's, Linux mostly, ranging from Ubuntu (and off-shoots), SAM, Slax, Knoppix to Kororaa (wow; XGL pretty cool...). Even use BartPE and Reatogo sometimes for repairs.

But have never used a Mac and want to know if anyone has or knows of a way to "try it out."

To date there are no Live cd OSs other then seen with Linux distros. There are two or three x86 emulators for running OSX on pc. But no live versions. How is Gentoo anyway? I've run Fedora, ubuntu(tried to anyway), FreeDos, and of course Knoppix Live for dvd with the cd iso image available there.

Well, I've only used Gentoo as an installed system. My Linux advisor/coercer (friend who got me started on Linux) actually did me a favor as I was forced to learn with Gentoo. It gives you a great many options but, in doing so, is not user friendly unless you are well versed with command line and are used to the miriad of Linux/Gentoo instructional phrasings. I enjoyed it once I had it set up, as it was crazy stable, but I eventually had hard drive (problems with the actual hardware) issues and that pc died.

Then, I tried out Ubuntu and, since it was post Gentoo, it was a breeze, actually easier to load than Windows, and I was up and running quick. Much more just-came-from-Windows-user-friendly than Gentoo, in my opinion.

Thanks, PC eye. Recomend any way to do a Linux livecd for the OSX? I saw something about a Slax settup. Any experience there?

Also, why would someone want a Mac system? I know that will probably open up a whole discussion on OS wars, but was just wondering.

I have never run an Apple or MAC since I was initially thrust into the Dos/3.1 enviroment many moons ago while going through formal electronics training. Even before that I was looking into an Epson HX-20 notebook with a small lcd screen and a cassette drive for a hard drive there. I serviced over 70 of those for one company while still in training then.

Currently I could either redo Fedora, or even try Mepis(on one cd currently), one version of ubuntu on cd, FreeDos, or simply run Knoppix 5.0.1 Live for cd, Gentoo, or ubuntu live distros. I had a load of fun trying to get Core 4 to run after the installation on one drive. !!! Apple/MAC saw little interest here due to the obvious lack of available softwares available at the time. With DX10 not being suitable for XP and the current video card Vista may become a lost cause there maybe Mandrake, SUSe, or another "flavor" of Linux will be looked into.
