Hello,
I have a new Dell XPS Studio 8000 desktop. I am running Windows 7, on a 64 bit platform. I have several other computers, including a laptop I run wireless. I have a Netgear wireless modem. It has 4 hardwire ports, which is now not enough ports for my uses. I was recently given a Netgear GS108 (8 port gigabit/ethernet switch).
I got the power supply with it, but not the manual, and can't find one online. I did find it does not need software or drivers. It automatically installs and connects.
My question: Can I just unplug one of the wires from one of the 4 ports on the modem, and plug in the GS108 in it's place, and use the 8 ports on the GS108? Or do I have to disconnect my wirelss Netgear router? I don't want to lose my wireless capacity. Does the GS108 replace the modem? Or, being a switch, can it plug into the modem?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dustman
