A freind of mine has Outlook 2000 (for wndows 2000) installed on his XP machine and it has worked for over 4 years now. Now it wont start at all. He has attempted to reinstall the software over the existing. That did not work.

Today I thouht I'd go over there and attemp to back up all his emails, sent and inbox. How do I back it up when the program wont start? With in windows explorer, which folders do I backup?

2nd question pertaining to this.. I wanted to install outlook 2003 (for xp), will I be able to import those folders into 2003 that I backed up from outlook 2000?

if outlook won't open then you need to find your OUTLOOK DATA FILE. i think it's situated at this place
C:\Documents and Settings\YOU\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook <-- enable hidden files to show if you cant find it here then its probably here
C:\Documents and Settings\YOU\Application Data\Microsoft\outlook

Thank you. I found it.

One last question please....there was only one .pst file. That single pst file will contain all the emails, inbox, Sent, and contact list?

yeah outlook stores all in one big file.
unlike Outlook express which has a file for each folders like inbox = inbox.dbx or outbox= outbox.dbx..
