hi ive been using outlook 2003 with my gmail account for a while now, but for some reason, outlook doesnt recieve any messages sent to my gmail account from myself. example: my email is [email protected]. if i send a message to [email protected] with outlook, i do not recieve the message in outlook, but it is there when i check it on the gmail server. does anyone know why this happens and how i can fix it? everything else works fine.

Did you add the GMail address to your list of "safe" contacts in the Outlook address book? Whatever you are forwarding may be being seen as spam by your ISP or own security settings and mail filters.

That would be it because this happened to me when I changed my e-mail on this forum. All I had to do was add the e-mail to the "safe" list.

okay now i get one of these errors

PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 550 5.1.1 No such user c1si1505786ugf

in an email when i try to send myself an email.

how do i add myself to the safe list and what does this failure email mean?

You would have to add a new contact in the GMail address book. But you have to log out of one account to log into the other in order to forward anything. That's the same with any email account. To avoid the hassle setup an email account with a different provider and avoid the dual account login/llogout task. If GMail is the ISP's mail server you would need to go to Hotmail??? like ..... Netzero, AOL, Earthlink, or some other place to setup a free email account there. In both accounts you would add a new contact for the other. Then you could easily bounce mail back and forth between the two separate providers.

i dont quite understand what you mean. In outlook, am i not allowed to send email to myself using the same gmail address?

You first go online to your new email account there to forward mail to the ISP's proprietary account you use on Outlook. Those are completely different servers. On most ISP accounts you can also configure mail to be brought in from a different email address. You were trying to send mail from the existing account to the same account which stays on the same server in the outgoing mail.

If you were to create a hotmail account and logged on while online to send mail to your default account you would see that come in on the ISP incoming mail server while hotmail is on a totally separate one. To receive mail from the GMail server you would need a second GMail account establiished. You would log into that one after first logging out of the current one. Then your outgoing mail would go to your default account's inbox.
