Outlook Express

Hi,
My Internet Provider is SBC Yahoo DSL. I have had an e-mail address from snet forever. But my problem is that with outlook express all I get is mostly junk mail. Alot of it is fake ebay spam. Since Outlook is lacking in spam guard controls, what do you suggest I do. I know I can have SBC make me a new ISP e-mail account but that will be through Yahoo.com. Is there anyway for me to get my current snet.net e-mail through something like Thunderbird? or anything like that? If so what do you suggest I use? Thanks, alot

When you go to install FireFox and Thunderbird alike(Windows versions please) they will need to be configured just as you would IE and Outlook. Firefox will immediately import favorites as bookmarks. Once configured Thunderbird will see the usual Outlook mail when you click on the send/receive there.

Anything new into the online inbox will appear there just as it does in Outlook Express. For each message in Outlook Express however you highlight it and go to the message link on the explorer bar and choose the "block sender" option to see the message disappear immediately.

Outlook has a phenomenal tool for protecting against spam. There is a junk email filter built in that you have to activate, but you can also download Spambayes. That is a wicked tool for getting rid of all that crap, trust me.

A phenomenal tool? Tell that to the spammatorium seen here lately. You can't block enough senders since the ISP make a few changes like removing the online option of "blocking sender's domain". Fortunately IE 7 is on the way people! It includes those same options! :D

I use both here. FireFox is the default browser for the multiboot of two Linux distros on a second drive. For XP Outlook Express is the main one while not ruling out trying a few spam reduction ideas with Thunderbird.

So do any of you guys use outlook express?

I use Outlook, coupled with Spambayes. You really should try it. Unless you're braindead, it's phenomenal, and it's free. It has a great learning feature. It's ESPECIALLY handy with the business email because it filters out hundreds of them a day.
