Overclock causes lower 3dmark score

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a slight overclocking problem,

Ive got a intel E6420 (2.13Ghz Stock) and an 8800 GTs. Ive started to overclock my cpu, after reading the overclock 101 tutorial on this forum. Ive benchmarked everystep using 3dmark 06.

Cpu Speed 2.13, 3dmark 06 score 8441, 3dmark cpu score 1851
Cpu Speed 2.24, 3dmark 06 score 3833, 3dmark cpu score 1927

I benchmarked more than once but still get similar results. I overlcocked by incrementing the cpu FSB speed to 280 and kept multiplyer the same at 8

I heard that the lower 3dmark score may be caused by the Ram speed, but I dont really have a good idea of if this is the case or how to solve it.

Could anyone help me solve my dilema please
Cheers

your cpu score is higher but your gfx score fell by a lot considering that first you have 8000 then 3000

ive been getting a similar thing but the difference wasnt so huge

dunno what can be causing it

Thanks a lot for the help, i really appreciate it.

I think my mobo forces the cpu to run slower when its not in use by dropping the multiplyer. Here are screen shots of what cpu z says
Ived oc'd further so im going to run 3d mark again now, see if theres any difference

There's your problem. Your PCI-e bus' speed is only set to X1. The normal setting for this is X16. Go into your BIOS and you'll need to change it.

I highly doubt it's your CPU's fault. Have you tried playing any games?

Cheers, thanks a lot. I fixed it last night but im not sure how, i made the card run at a higher clock speed and gave higher voltage to the card as well so that must of fixed it. Got my cpu rinning at 3.29 now, a lot better than 2.13 so thanks a lot for the help!

No problem. Did you volt mod the card, 'cause that's the only way to give the card more voltage. Also, OC'ing the card through Windows probably wouldn't have increased the PCI-e bus speed. It has to be done through the BIOS.

So, is CPU-z showing it as X16 now?

Glad it's working!

Yeah cpu-z is showing it at 16X now. I just increased the PCI express voltage by 0.1v, nothing changes when you increase the pci express speed, so ive just left it alone now and all is working fine. Thanks again for your help

increasing that voltage will not make the card overclock better, or more stable. i would change it back to stock voltage.

I am also unsure as to how he's changed the voltage, as far as I know, the only way to do this is to volt mod the card, which I really doubt he's done.
