Overclocking EVGA 7600GS

Hey, I've been trying to OC my 7600GS, but this is the first GPU I've ever done this to, and I'm not sure what settings are safe. I was following this guide, but I am not sure what to set my memory clock to. On the specs for my GPU, the memory clock speed is 800MHz, but it's currently set to 400MHz. Is it safe to crank it up that high? Am I looking at the wrong number or something because it doesn't seem like I'd be able to double that.

800Mhz is double rate, as your memory is DDR. It gets abit confusing I know, some overclocking programs use the effective rate, and some the "real" rate. Basically its 400Mhz both ways, so its an effective frequency of 800Mhz.

My rule of thumb is to crank it up 50 Mhz at a time, then the second you get artifacts, ease back 20Mhz at a time until you hit a stable overclock. 3Dmark is a very useful program to see if your computer is stable because its very hardware intensive.

Also keep in mind that not all cards overclock the same, so just because the author of some guide or review can do it, doesn't necessarily mean that you can overclock that high as well, it depends many factors like your cooling and the quality of your actual chip.
