overclocking/life of cpu

I have done a small overclock on my intel e7300 from stock to 3ghz by just upping the fsb slightly not changing the voltage or anything. Is this is anyway going to reduce the life of my cpu or do you need to start upping the voltage before this is the case? I am intending to have this processor for a long time so i am quite concerned about this.

Well how long exactly do you plan on running it?

To tell you the truth the lifespan will vary from processor to processor. But also, most any processor will last virtually forever. And that i mean. I still have old 75mhz Intel processors that still have a heartbeat.

Overclocking, unless your getting insane with it, shouldnt dramatically shorten the processors life although it will have an impact yes. Voltage does play a big part as does heat. Although heat is pretty much the enemy of all electronic devices anyway.

If you overclock it without upping the voltage, and it proves 100% stable, then i dont think it should have much of an impact on the lifespan.

From my experience, i had an old Intel P4 Northwood (pretty much the best P4 overclocker in the world) that was a stock 2.6ghz and it ran 3.6ghz daily no problem with a 1.9v vcore. I ran that for about 2 years, and it would still be alive today for me to play with had i not tried to remove the IHS and scratched it... :mad:
