Overclocking my 5600

My new cpu cooler should be here today, i was thinking about overclocking it to about 3ghz. I have never actually overlcocked any cpu's so this is my first, is there anything i should be aware of besides slowly increasing the HTT? i think the multiplier is locked on this chip. Thanks.

might need to increase CPU voltage a bit for better oc power, make sure its got good cooling aswell

I orderd a zalman cooler that should be here any minute, so if i get it up to 3Ghz and becomes unstable should i increase voltage by like .1 at a time? or?

i'm no expert on overclocking, i just read a few times that you need to increase the voltage sometimes :P sorry for lack of specifics

Ok i just got it and installed, my cpu temp in speedfan and pcwizard say 50* but the cores are only like 30-35*c....does the "cpu temp" mean alot?

Edit: in bios it says CPU is 30*c

I get the vibe that core temps are what i need to be looking at? i bumped it up to 2.95Ghz and cores are 30*c

That's fine you could go higher if you wanted, the only thing that put's up heat is when you increase voltage.

Thanks, so what i should be looking at are core temps right? well i have it at 3.03Ghz now at 35* idle according to speedfan and pcwiz...(cores)

I may stop here since people say they cant get these chips past 3.1-3.2 but i might try in the future.

btw, i love this zalman cooler :D

A X2 4600 and up about 200 to 250 mhz overclock is about the most you will get without increasing the CPU voltage, but then you really need to keep a eye on your temps

Yeah, im not going to go into messing with voltages.
Right now at 3.03Ghz im running 30-35*c idle and Load 43*c (cores)

i got it to 3.12Ghz and temps are from 28-34*c idle and about 40*c on decent load and long gaming..those are my core temps, what is the "cpu temp"? it says 52*c but it said the exact same thing with the stock hsf

In PC Wizard I just have Core 1 and 2 and below that is the system temp. Never cared for Speed Fan, Its temps in most computer I have installed it on was way off from the other programs
