Overclocking my 9600GT. Advice? Experiences?

Last night, I decided to overclock my faithful 9600GT. Stock was 650/1625/900, but I got safely to 720/1800/980 before calling it quits. It runs stable, no artifacting, and my 3dmark06 score went up by about 450.

The GPU is idling at 41C and under load goes up to 58C, which as I understand it, is perfectly safe for a GPU.

Is it worth it to keep trying to go higher? The temps seem low enough to give it a shot. I'm wondering if I'm bottlenecked by the CPU at all, which I'm also overclocking today after installing my Zalman cooler. Maybe it'll free up some more headroom for my 9600GT.

Anyone try this with this card? Am I pretty much maxed out as far as gains and good stability? I would love to get 8800GT-type performance, and I'm guessing I'm close (SM2.0 and SM3.0 are about 4600-4700 each).

ps i get the same temps as you, maybe if my temps were lower i could O/C it higher? How do i get the temps lower for gfx card?

There are VGA coolers, but that might not be the limiting factor. I know for my card at least (PNY), the memory clock is limited to 2000 max (1000x2). That's why I'm hovering around 980 to be safe. Other brands may differ...

And hopefully, I can overtake you tonight after I OC my CPU a bit more with my new cooler. =P It's weird how similar our specs are...

That's because at stock, your card is already really high.

if you have any space or ventalation holes in your case try and fill em up with some fan's and see how your temps are from there, but ya like smooth said there are vga coolers if you want to really get the most out of ur vidoa card
