yes. i have a geforce fx series, and it sucks. im trying to run Oblivion on it and its way too laggy. how do i actually go about OCing it?

thats not going to fix ur problem. get a new card. oblivion is nearly the most demanding game out for pc now.

look into atleast a 7900 gs. if u have an AGP not a pci-e pc.

look into a new computer, sorry

I've overclocked my GeForce FX5200 on my old Celeron rig and the difference isn't noticeable at the levels you're probably expecting. I saw a 1-2fps improvement on most games.

I had an FX5200 before i built this rig i've got now (8800GTS) and believe me, no matter what you do to that card, it is NEVER going to play oblivon

I had a 5200 AGP 8X card before. Let me tell you from experience, that card is sh*t. It can't even run games like UT2004 properly on high and it utilises an outdated engine! It will NEVER run Elder Scroll at ANY setting, but you can give it a try. To overclock a nvidia card under Vista downwards (not inclusive) is really easy, you just download the latest driver from the Nvidia website, then google "coolbits" and download that little registry hack and you will unlock a panel in your Driver to overclock your card. Alternatively, you can download third party overclocking tools like River Tuner and Power strip to overclock it, I find that these third party softwares push the card further than the Coolbits hack.
Under Vista you will have to download the 97.xx NOT the 100.xx one, and then install ntune 5 to overclock it. Ntune will NOT work with the latest driver for Vista, I have tried it on my 7900GT and it wasted 30 minutes of my time because I had to uninstall it and search for the older drive.

It'd not that bad, i got it to run UT2k4 on medium to high settings and it was indeed very playable... but yes, the card is a POS

listen to the crowd.... they are right!

ur card as of now is junk! plz do not be offended! best way is to buy new card!

games like oblivion needs wayyy more powerful card than 5200! even my x850xt can bearly play it! in fact even a 7900s/x1900s cant get above 60fps in max settings with everything on and on high resolution.

You might be able to run it in High at a resolution of 800x600, but once you ramp it up to 1024x768 you will get jerks at critical places like explosions, then at 1280x1024, it will start to lag. I have had to live through the pain of playing UT2004 with a FX5200 for about 6 months, it was a nightmare, but I guess I got what i paid for, I can't expect a high performing card for its price range. ;)

You are right NewMonster, My card is a XFX 7900GT and I can't play it on MAX, but then I don't think Elder scroll is a good game so there is no lost on my part. :P :P :P I got bored about the first mission which was to follow the heir or something.
